Counsel for a friend

Here’s what I advised a friend who was newly promoted and in doubt of herself and her abilities to lead that she wanted to back out and go back to her old position. Such lines of thought happen at random and more often than not, I cannot replicate it in the same exact flow if I wanted to so I requested my friend to keep the message until I write it down hehe. (Message modified so as not to use text lingo)


"It’s really either you’ll hate it or love it. Think of it as a blessing so it won’t be a burden to you. Think of it as a challenge so you may find ways to deal with it at the same time improving yourself and discovering other wonderful things about you as a person. Or think of it as your greatest fear that it’s a must for you to conquer. Kaya yan! Believe in yourself, in your judgment, in your instinct. When in doubt, ask Him, ask other reliable people. You have good bosses who are willing to help. Enjoy the climb to the top. :) "

Senatorial and local elections

I just came from the voting precinct to cast my votes for the senatorial and local positions. I hope I made the right choices. I am also optimistic that whoever wins, they will truly stand by their vows and promises to serve the country with wholehearted dedication, supported by good moral values. Go Pinoys! Kaya natin to!

Be responsible. Cast your votes!

Yet again, I was a victim of maling akala. I am going home to Baguio today for the elections tomorrow. Since it's already Sunday, and it's election, only a few will be going up to Baguio, so I didn't see the need for a ticket reservation. I arrived at the terminal at around 12:45AM, aiming for the 1 AM trip. But boy! What a surprise. That trip is full and the next available trip is at 3 AM. A little pissed off but not wanting to be a chance passenger, I just purchased my ticket and prepared myself to wait for 2 hours.

The observant I noticed that some people going up are local tourists. It's election on Monday and yet some people use the long breaks to go on vacation instead of doing their responsibility and exercising their right to vote. Sad but true.

We always complain that the Philippines is getting worse, that corrupt officials are all over the place but when the right venue is already there for us to make a stand that could change our country, we don’t even care. Voting takes only a small fraction of our time. We don't need the whole day to write our candidates in the ballot, accomplish some forms and fingerprint and drop our ballot in the ballot box. It may take some effort and careful thinking and judgment for us to decide who to vote but in the end, that will pay off if we made the right decisions.

No one else will help the Philippines soar high but we Filipinos, just a no one else will help ourselves achieve our dreams but us. We cannot rely on other's donations and financial support. Wake up Pinoys! These so called supports from foreign countries usually have something at stake, something that will also be beneficial to tem. This is not a generalization though. It’s not only my own opinion as well. It's what analysts say, as seen in some local TV shows and documentaries.

But then again, it's not yet late. If we start now, Philippines will go a long way. I am very optimistic on that. I hope you are too.

Blogging

While checking on my blog site a while back, I realized that I am already in my second year of blogging. I first heard about blogging at the Digital Tour show of Studio 23. Blogger was the site they featured. These blog sites allow you to publish your diary online. When I first saw it, I became instantly interested but I was not yet comfortable with the idea that others other than me or some selected people (who are allowed to read my ???journal) will be able to read my journal. I felt at that time that it would be an invasion of privacy. But after a few months, the news about blogging is all around and people are becoming addicted to it. And so on November 7, 2005, I created an account in Blogger.com and started my own blog hehe.

I am not a frequent blogger. There are usually gaps in my posts (I’m talking about months). I only write when the mood strikes me and when there’s something positive and constructive to write about. I promised myself that I’ll never write about negative things but sometimes writing is my only outlet so I still write it but it’s never be published online. There are also times that I have a topic in mind, I have already constructed the first few sentences but I never got to write these thoughts down. Realizing that I’m wasting some ideas, I attempt to write it down but it doesn’t sound as appealing as when I was building up the contents in my mind. Oh well, that’s what I get for being lazy. :p

In the forums, I see topics on blogging. Forum members usually ask about other people’s blogs that are a good read. As I was going over some of the suggested sites, I realized that theirs are way more customized than mine! People who are not even in the IT field but are just interested in the internet and web designing have gone as far as personalizing their sites! Whew! While I, on the other hand, who is in the IT field, is just using the available templates. How pathetic can that be? Hay. But inspired by these people, I decided to do something more for my blog. In the end, it’s mine, it’s my little space in the world wide web.
To start off, I checked out what other stuff can be placed in my site. Advertisements definitely are not an option though. I think these will make my site unorganized and not so personal. I’m glad that I found a blogger forum where I can get information on blog customization. I’m already excited.

Sykes Cares

Sykes (headed by the Branding team) organized a philanthropic activity that’s education related. The company decided to rehabilitate a library in one of the schools in Tondo. To start with the project, the team asked for book donation from Sykes employees. They also asked for volunteers to sign up for the book covering and sorting and library painting activities. Anne and I decided to join. Fortunately, we were among the first 25 to enlist for the May 5, 2007 schedule. And so this morning we had to get up way earlier than our usual shift for the book covering activity. I am happy to have been a part of this endeavor. The inner happiness and contentment I experienced is priceless as I know have been an instrument for a good cause. :)

This is actually a blessing in disguise because for sometime now, I am considering of joining a group that organize activities to help others. I am glad that Sykes has it. It’s fulfilling to have a job but it’s a different fulfillment when you know that you are touching other’s lives because you are willing to share not only your financial blessings but your precious time as well.

Farewell dinner for Weng and Fides (and Pey)

Weng and Fides were lucky to land a job in Singapore (Barcap). They flew to Singapore yesterday, together with Baby Ysa. It was a blessing for the couple because opportunity knocked a day before Fides’ last day in Sykes. After passing the series of interviews, they were finally requested to start work on May 7, 2007. To wish them luck and best wishes in their new endeavor, we got together for a simple but sumptuous dinner at Josefina’s Seaside, Macapagal last May 1.

Pey will also be leaving for Japan on Sunday so the dinner is for all of them. He will be away for 6 months.
